Unique Kitchen Storage Solutions For Keeping Your Kitchen In Order
When you have a home, whether you have purchased it or you are renting, chances are good that you are spending a lot of time in your kitchen. Also, unless you have built the house yourself and have exactly what you want, you have probably complained that your kitchen does not have enough storage. This is a problem that many people have because they simply can't seem to keep their kitchen in order.
When you are fighting for storage space it can become more difficult to make dinner, entertain guests, or simply have a place to sit down and relax. Your kitchen should be a place for you to do more than just eat dinner. If it is not, you should really take some time to see what you can do to better equip your kitchen for the long haul. Finding great storage solutions for keeping your kitchen in order is going to be an accomplishment that you will feel proud of.
There are several different types of storage solutions that you can think about when you are looking to keep your kitchen in order. Something that you should remember is that your kitchen is going to be disorganized on several levels. First of all, you'll have the things that you use to prepare food, the actual food, the condiments, the cooking spices and oils. And that is just the beginning. Second, you will have your dishes, utensils, glasses, and coffee mugs that you use on a daily basis. All these things need to be organized as well. And there are always things in your kitchen that just do not belong there, but you may think that they do not have anywhere else to go. These miscellaneous items are one of the biggest factors in how clutter makes its way into your life, or you kitchen for that matter. If you can create a place for everything, then your kitchen, and your home, will be much more organized.
You are going to want to focus on how you can organize the food items that you have. Your refrigerator can be cleaned out, and you can use several different organizational products. You can try Lazy-Susan turners and plastic bins to organize your refrigerator and keep it organized. Chances are you will have to delve into those food pantries, and do the same thing. Keeping like items together, for instance, all of the soups on one set of shelves and the vegetables on the other will add to your ability to stay organized. You also might want to look into purchasing a nice spice rack, preferably one that you can mount to the wall so it will be out of the way. Another nice component you might want to think about would be some extra shelving or drawers for things like cooking oils and other condiments that you use on a daily basis. Items such as these should be organized and stored close to where they are most often used. You should try to have a drawer or shelf within reach of the stove or counter top for easy access.
A major clutter problem comes from the organization of your dishes and cooking utensils. In order to make room for your pots and pans you can always hang them from your ceiling. Not only is this a different look for your kitchen, but it is quite a space saver. If you hang your pots and pans above your stove, not only are they out of the way but they are within reach. You can have your dishes stored in cupboards, which will allow them to be used easily and quickly. It is always nice to have your utensils nearby as well. Getting a utensil cup is something that can go a long way for the organization of your kitchen.
Your counter is probably going to be full of different appliances. A toaster, waffle maker, coffee maker and other appliances need to be organized. Chances are you don’t use your waffle maker every day, so go ahead and find somewhere to store it when it’s not being used. Installing lower cabinets with plug-in adaptors build into them allows you to have access to those things, as well as to be able to hide them away when you aren't using them.
You should also begin to think about the things that are stored in your kitchen that might not belong there. Things like piles of mail, homework, and other items often find their way into the kitchen. This is not the best way to help you stay organized. Adding a bin for the mail, or even individual mail boxes on the wall, can be a great way to help clear up the mail problem. A bin for car keys or other items will also help lessen the clutter and help you enjoy a more organized kitchen.

DIY Ikea storage solution?
I have a cubby hole in our wall that is about 5 feet tall, 2 feet deep, and 4 feet wide. I need a shelving unit with doors to put in there to store baskets of household items that are cluttery. I want it to look like a built-in, if at all possible....with legs, if at all possible. Ikea customer service pretty much blows, unfortunately, so I can't find a real person there to help me find what I'm looking for. I've looked under their kitchen cabinets and wardrobes, but can't really find something with doors AND shelves.
Does anyone have an affordable suggestion or another place I could look? Thanks.
I believe you won't be able to get a ready made shelf of your dimension.
2 feet deep and 4 feet wide post no problem but 5 feet in height is not standard ready made size.
Either you go for diy or get a carpenter for make to order.
question about kitchen remodel?
I have an old outdated kitchen- my oven is one built into the wall and the door no longer works, I am sure I probably could fix it but it needs to be updated anyway (it's REALLY bad).
needless to say I have a cook top also built in the a laminate counter top.
How hard or expensive would it be to take out the cook top and put in a freestanding stove and oven range? If it makes a difference, I use gas in my kitchen. I know we would have to have the counter top and cabinets beneath it.
then where the oven is, I would like to remove that and maybe put a pantry or storage shelves in it's place.
I live in an old mobile home, would this even be possible to do? I know it will vary greatly, but does anyone have any clues what this might cost in labor- (of course we would have to buy the range separately)

hmmm, sounds like what I'm looking at here, except I like the wall oven and cook top. You are right about taking out the cabinet. If it is an interior piece, then you'll have to add side panels to any base cabinet remaining.....I'm assuming yours doesn't have interior separation between the cabinets....mine don't. Also you'll need to pull the Formica, cut it and end cap it to cover the cut ends. Easier just to get new Formica tops....the least expensive counter tops.
You may also need to replace the oven cabinet. Otherwise, how are you doing to have a door over the oven opening. You'd also need to add shelves.
The easy part is the gas. You hire someone (by law a plumber with the proper certification for gas) to cap the line going to the oven and hook the new stove up to the new range. You'll also need electricity for the stove clocks........but probably have it close by with the wall oven.
