Improve Your Life. Employ A Housekeeper!

For most people, the word "housekeeper" calls up images of a matronly older lady presiding over a country estate, following after the parlour maids with a dust cloth in hand. Nothing could be further from the reality of a modern housekeeper. Many "regular" families employ these helpful individuals these days to do everything from cleaning to shopping to cooking, and enjoy a much simpler and freer lifestyle as a result.

A housekeeper basically does what the name implies, keeps your house in the condition you would like. A housekeeper can perform a variety of services for employers, but almost anything that makes living easier comes under this individual's control.

Obviously, cleaning is at the top of a housekeeper's list of duties. While some people find that once or twice a week keeps their house spic and span, many find that a "daily" worker actually gets more done and can revolve a set of chores that relieve working homeowners of many unpleasant tasks. A good daily will allow you to forget about dustbin schedules, maintenance and repair workers, and other regularly scheduled tasks. Further, by constantly cleaning and maintaining your home, you are actually saving time in the long run that would be spent endlessly cleaning junked-up closets or scrubbing accumulated grime from surfaces. Having a weekly cleaning schedule keeps your house in its best condition.

Besides cleaning, housekeepers can perform a variety of tasks related to running the home that help a busy homeowner fit everything into a tight schedule. Chores like weekly shopping, errand running, and cooking can be negotiated with a domestic agent, relieving the homeowner of unwanted or time-consuming chores. A good housekeeper can be hired to pay tradesmen, monitor workmen, and any other tasks you cannot be present to do yourself.

Even if you only employ part-time house help, anything that is done in your absence is saving you time. By setting up a good housekeeping schedule, you not only save yourself the time of the actual chores performed, but you also save yourself future worry with jobs piling up unfinished, leading to even more time spent trying to untangle your "to-do" list.

Imagine the pleasure of returning to your spotless home each evening with a freshly-cooked meal awaiting you, the shelves stocked, the evening paper to hand, and your mail handled . . . and the only thing left for you to do is sit back and relax! This can be a reality with a good housekeeper.

Closet Maid Shelving Questions

Will Home Depot cut plastic ClosetMaid shelving for me?

I've tried calling Home Depot several times, but I'm always put on hold and nobody ever picks up.

I'd like to install additional shelving in my closet. I need 36 inch shelves, but the Closet Maid wire shelves only come in 48 inch packs. I do not own a saw. Will Home Depot cut the shelves for me in the store?
Thank you!

Probably. They may charge you for the cuts if you have many. And you'll have to buy the entire Shelf, not just the 36 inches that you use.

A better idea might be to buy a hacksaw, and cut them yourself. It's not hard, it will only take a little time, and you'll have a useful tool of your own for the next time you need to cut something made of metal.

I tried to put up Closet Maid Shelving on dry wall. They keep falling down. What now?

A few months ago I had my entire garage done over. All the walls were insulated and new drywall was put up. Of course I need shelves and I decided to try these Closet Maid shelves that you find at Home Depot and other home stores. Following the directions, I put them up, but then they started falling down. I've tried every type of fastener they have and none work. So now I have ONE six foot shelf still up, but I worry it will fall down. One other six foot shelf won't stay up. One two foot shelf won't stay up either.
Should I just give up and use some other type of shelving? I have some, but again these need to be attached to the dry wall. Otherwise, I suppose I could buy shelves that stand on the floor, but they are not what I want as they take up floor space.
Your help with ideas will be appreciated. Especially before I have to hire someone to do the DIY project.

I think you need to find the studs in the wall. An electronic stud finder can be bought. A hammer and some light tapping and a little common sense can do it. I f the dry wall has not been securely fastened to the studs you might have a hollow sound even when you are tapping the hammer lightly over the stud. You should get a solid sound when you are tapping on the drywall over the stud. Studs are every 18 inches center to center. This will vary around the ends doors windows ect. But once you find a stud you can usually move toward the center every eighteen inches and find the next one. When you think you have found a stud carefully hammer a small nail through the dry wall and you will know if you hit air. If you hit something solid it is most likely a stud. Get some fasteners into those studs and you can hang your shelves
