Why do some new shelf stereo systems have the power supply built into one of the speakers?

I was at Bestbuy today and noticed that some of the mini systems from Philips and Panasonic have the power supply built into one of the speakers. In other words, you plug the speaker into the wall outlet and then run an extra wire to the control unit for power. Why not just keep the power supply inside the control unit where it belongs? I wanted to mount my system on the wall, but with this design, I'd have a fat power cord running to one of the speakers and an extra wire heading back to the control unit.

Depending on the size of the main unit it could very well be to keep the size of the system down. Since the speakers are big enough to enclose the converter without too much work it could be that or they need to keep the heat inside the unit down.

Teen room on a very low budget?

I am 13 and my room need a serious makeover. I live i Australia so I can't shop at JCpenny or Pottery Barn or any American stores because they don't deliver to Australia =(. I don't have much money and I am not allowed to paint the walls or get new furniture so I just want websites that deliver to Australia (don't say Ikea, my sister works there and our house is covered in stuff from it) things I can make myself are good and any cheap things. I want places to buy decorations and things to give the room a more teen feeling.

I am really girly, into makeup and clothes, I am a competitive dancer, design clothes.

For furniture I have all white. Built in wardrobe, desk with hutch, 2 sets of shelves and of course a bed.

Any help would be awesome

Here are some DIY wall decor ideas, with your skills you can make classy creative designs in your style.

Message board with fun fabric that coordinates with your room,
pin up notes, photos, memorabilia...
Cut a rectangle out of box cardboard 16"x20" or 20"x24"
or any size you prefer.
To make the hanger, punch two holes 1/2 inch apart 1 inch from the top in the center,
(where a hanger is on the back of a frame)

thread the ends of a twisty tie (the paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, turn cardboard over, make a loop and twist the ends together.
Cut a piece of fabric two inches larger than the cardboard.
Lay cardboard on top of fabric and wrap to the back like a present and pin on an angle.

Photo collage of you and your friends/family
Cut out any size out of thin cardboard. (a cereal box works great)
Make the hanger.
Use a glue stick or a small drop of glue for each pic, you can arrange the photos side by side or overlapping.

Cut out any size frame from box cardboard and wrap with fabric strips, wallpaper or gift wrap and pin or glue pic to the back.
